Is There Life After “Sex”?

Networking Event for Executive Women to Pick Up Where “Sex and the City” Left Off

Fairfax , VA , April 05, 2004 Washington-area executive women are not letting the demise of “Sex and the City” get them down. To celebrate the importance of friendship and networking among smart, professional women – as exemplified in the hit show – an impromptu gathering specifically for C-level (CEO, CIO, CTO, and CFO) and other top level executive women is being held on Thursday, April 8. Chic attire, high heels, and red lipstick are mandatory!

The networking event, hosted by Cynthia de Lorenzi, CEO of PatriotNet (an Internet Service Provider headquartered in Fairfax , Virginia ) is designed to recognize dynamic women serving in corporate, governmental, and non-profit leadership roles, and to celebrate their significant accomplishments in the business world.

It is being held at The Tower Club, 8000 Towers Crescent Dr., Suite 1700 , Vienna , VA from 6 to 8 p.m. on Thursday, April 8; the cost is $25, with any funds remaining after expenses to be donated to a charity that benefits women. Anyone interested in attending should RSVP by Tuesday, April 6, to Lana Bian, President of LJB International, at ljbian@patriot.net.

Among the companies lending their support to this event, Nordstrom's is donating a pair of pink stiletto shoes, the new Mandarin Oriental Hotel is donating a High Tea for Four, Fleming’s Steakhouse is donating a dining gift certificate and Karen Long Portraits is donating an executive portrait photo shoot. A raffle will be held for these donated items and the proceeds will go to the Washington chapter of Dress for Success, a not-for-profit organization that helps low-income women make tailored transitions into the workforce.

“Many of us have worked very hard to attain success and, as a result, sometimes we tend to take ourselves a bit too seriously,” explained Ms. de Lorenzi. “I thought it was time we let our hair down, laugh, have fun – and still do deals-on-heels. No matter what our professional position, smart, confident and, yes, sexy women still enjoy girlfriend time.”

“It was a natural idea to bring together a group of dynamic women in a way reminiscent of the heroines on “Sex and the City.” Robyn Sachs, president of RMR & Associates, said “It was a fun idea so, not surprisingly, after Cynthia shared the idea with me, we quickly formed a small group to take charge of RSVPs, publicity and promotion, and securing donations from area businesses.”

Ms. Bian said, “It's our wish that some of the attendees will also be interested in continuing to support Dress for Success by becoming mentors to the recipients of this great organization.”

Ms. de Lorenzi recently relocated to Northern Virginia from Texas , where she was a co-founder of the North Texas Technology Council (NTTC), a non-profit organization dedicated to promoting North Texas as a premier technology region.

”With my closest girlfriends back in Texas, I knew that I needed to find a group of local friends who could appreciate similar challenges and experiences and provide a mutual support system,” said de Lorenzi. “Like Carrie and her friends in ‘Sex and the City,’ I’d like to have a fun venue for woman-to-woman, peer-to-peer executive level networking here in the Washington area, too. I’m confident our get-together on April 8 will be the start of something big.”
